You know reader, the world’s a crazy place. For example, just yesterday I ran into a girl I haven’t seen in months. I suppose that’s not too crazy, but when we got to talking she mentioned that she’d read my blog. That surprised me, particularly since we haven’t seen each other in so long. Even harder to believe, she wasn’t too fond of my most recent series of posts. Crazy world I know.
“I didn't mean to make anyone angry,” I told her in all sincerity.
“Oh you didn’t make me angry,” she answered. “..Disappointed maybe, but not angry. In fact, it was enlightening. It explains a lot.”
“It does?”
“Um hm,” she answered with eyes that darted ‘round in her head. “...How come you stopped calling me?”
“ I don’t know. ..You could’ve called me you know.”
“Is that what you wanted?” she asked.
“..Maybe. I don’t know. I thought we had fun.”
“We did!” she said enthusiastically. "That’s why I was surprised you just...dropped-off like that. But I guess now I understand you better.”
“Well, I am pretty deep.”
“Yeah you are!” she exclaimed with a laugh, but just as quickly stifled it back down. Her lips became tight and she began to tap her foot against the pavement like she had somewhere to go.
“...You should call me sometime,” she finally said when she realized I wasn’t going to say anymore.
“Really? Even though you understand me?”
“..Yeah, sure. I mean, you can still call me.”
“And why would you want me to do that?"
“Why?”
“ Yeah. If you understand me, why would you still want me to call you?”
Our eyes locked.
“My God Lodo, I haven’t seen this side of you before.”
“What side is that?”
“This needy side. Or is it insecurity?”
“Well, we’re all insecure aren’t we? That’s what Kanye says.”
She laughed.
“You and Kanye.”
“...So why do you want me to call you?” I asked again with a smile.
“Jesus, you really want to hear it don’t you?”
“I do,” I answered.
Again our eyes locked until we both burst into laughter.
“...’Cause you’re fun,” she finally said.
“What’s that?” I asked, taken aback by her answer.
“ 'Cause you’re fun!” she said again with a soft punch to my belly. “Why?--What’d you think I was gonna say?”
“...I don’t know.”
“Oh my God Lodo!--what’d you think I was gonna say?”
“I don’t know...”
"We're all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it."
Speaking of crazy run-ins, I can't believe it's been a year since this show at Irving Plaza. I wrote a post about it if you want to scroll back and read it (yeah, that'll happen!), but I'm not gonna re-hash it here. Man, time just flies; but Beck's perfect touch and phrasing?--that's timeless baby!

Do you think she really just thinks you are fun, or do you think she's taking the Machiavellian route to your heart?
Hard to say Spence. But I know that making me work is not the way to my heart.
Yea, I don't know Lodo. I don't know that any of us really knows the way to our own heart. Especially those of us inclined towards introspection. We *think* we know, but I'm pretty sure we don't know.
Well Ava, you certainly said something I agree with and/or relate to. And that's "I don't know."
Oh the games people play.
